Bay City, TX
about the project
Working directly with the nutrition director, our design group developed a comprehensive renovation plan to give this aging facility a new presence while leaving the existing floor plan and serving line equipment unchanged.
Inspired by the town’s industrial and agricultural economic origins, our design team developed the “Bay City Food Works” brand as the main identity for the cafeteria. Graphics, signage, color palette and menu boards were developed around the concept of an industrial factory or mill. Brands for each service area were developed around the Food Works concept including: Loading Zone (Snack Bar / Grill), Automatic (Vending), Steamplant (Hot Food) and Assembly Line (Sandwich / Salad).
Our goal was to create an environment that would capture the imagination of the kids and encourage participation, social interaction and friendship while increasing sales. Bold colors and simple materials, such as gears, metal studs, galvanized panels, caution striping and chain link fence, were used to create the appearance of a factory. Daily menu offerings are displayed on magnetic menu boards fabricated with galvanized metal panels, chain link fencing and magnetic vinyl food tags.
