about the project
A new food court addition connected the existing primary and elementary school buildings with a central kitchen. A graphic design package was coordinated with the owner, project architect and equipment consultant in an effort to work with the proposed floor plan and equipment layout.
Our design team developed graphics, signage, a color palette, display fixtures and merchandising for the new kid’s food court. Our goal was an environment that would capture the imagination of the kids and encourage social interaction, friendship and learning. Four nouns (whimsy, imagination, expression and adventure) were the inspiration for the serving line graphics.
Large scale prints, bold colors and child friendly finishes were used to create an “age-specific environment” targeting 5-11 year old students. Merchandising props reinforce the theme and name of each serving line. Playful items like large pushpins, crayons and working lunchbox clocks were used to create wonderment. Two identity concepts resulting from a school spirit contest were incorporated within wall graphics for Lil’ Eagles Lunchbox and Big Blue – the school spirit cheer.
The overall project budget including design, fabrication and merchandising was $70,000. The project was fabricated over 5 weeks and installed over a 4 day period.
