about the project
Easter Seals McWhorter Children’s Center offers children with disabilities a place to laugh, play, learn and grow. The center offers full day, year round childcare for children 6 weeks through 5 years of age along with pediatric rehabilitation and therapy.
Working with the Easter Seals committee and the project architect, our design team developed graphic environments and signage that turned “therapy into fun” and “fun into learning.” Two jungle inspired therapy areas divert attention from the hard work of therapy, while focusing the kids attentions on the wonderment of the jungle.
Linoleum wainscoting lined the walls and the jungle bridge waterfall, while alternating carpet colors aided with mobility therapy. Kids compare their height with a 3D giraffe at the therapy stair. Classrooms inspired by a safari spirit were named Merry Monkeys, Giggling Giraffes, Peek-A-Boo Parrots & Laughing Lions. The circular Animal Safari playroom offers an array of 3D animals & tree canopies. Siblings & parents make use games & computers at the family waiting playhouse cabana.
